The Association of Greek Language & Culture Schools in Victoria Inc. was launched in Melbourne at the Graduate House, University of Melbourne, on April 4th, 2019.
Present were representatives from Greek Community Language Schools, members of the media, members of Community Languages Australia, Liberal Party assistant Minister for Education Hon Brad Rowswell MP representing the Shadow Minister for Education Hon. Cindy McLeish MP, Mr Stefan Romaniw Director of Community Languages Australia, the Education Advisor at the Greek Consulate in Melbourne Dr G. Nikolaidou, Dr Stephie Nicoloudis from the Greek Program at La Trobe University, Dr Maria Gindidis from Monash University and others.
The speakers praised the move of Greek Community language schools to unite as well as the fact that culture has been an integral part of the education program.
In his speech Mr I. Garivaldis outlined some of the issues faced by language schools in Victoria and touched on the history of the Association, which started back in 1982, within the boundaries of the Greek Community. He said that now we desire to become more active and co-operative.
Everyone enjoyed themselves on the night and posed for photographs in this historic moment of the Greek language in Victoria.
